Monitoring Progress and Encouraging Researchers in the Social Engagement, Nan Province, August 7-13, 2024

"Work must be forward-thinking, considering the next 5 to 10 years. How will the local people live? What will education look like? How will careers develop? Plans must be made in collaboration with the community. What should children study? What are the new careers? What are the future careers? Thinking ahead allows us to envision a shared future."
Aj. Krissanapong Kirtikara provided this guidance for the work.

Aj. Suvit Tia, President of KMUTT,  and Aj. Krissanapong Kirtikara, a university advisor, along with Mr. Sumate Thanchareon, visited Nan Province to monitor the progress and encourage KMUTT researchers in the area. They were joined by Mr. Monchai Neesang, the Nan area manager, and local researchers to share knowledge. The work conducted included:

a) Vocational Learning at Wiang Sa Industrial and Community Education College, Wiang Sa District: They visited students under the "Inspiring Dreams, Shaping Electricians" project, which is financially supported by the Education Fund. The students were found to be highly motivated in their studies, with the goal of applying their knowledge to pursue careers as electricians after graduating from the vocational certificate level, thereby supporting themselves and their families.

b) MOVE Project in Nan Province (Speaking, Reading, Writing Thai): Along with Asst. Prof. Sitthikorn Sumalee from the Faculty of Education, Kasetsart University, they visited Ban Sop Pet School, Tha Wang Pha District, Ban Doi Tiew School, Tha Wang Pha District, and Ban Huai Nai School, Na Muen District. They observed that all schools utilized a variety of learning materials with the aim of enabling their students to communicate effectively in Thai, which is fundamental to learning. The teachers' dedicated efforts have led to significant progress in the students' learning development.

c) Quality of Life Development in Mlabri Villages (Ban Huai Lu and Ban Mai Kwae Yan, Nan Province): Both villages have good quality of life, with income from both employment and self-reliance through sustainable forest foraging and food production for community consumption. The communities have adapted well to sustain and develop in new directions while preserving their ethnic identities.

d) Continuing Education Development in Bo Kluea District, Nan Province: This involved collaboration among three schools: Bor Luang School (primary level), Sop Mang School (early childhood to Grade 9), and Bo Kluea School (secondary level). The education was systematically developed and interconnected, with progress being monitored over 12 years. The focus was on ensuring students receive appropriate education linked to future careers and their individual aptitudes.

Aj. Krissanapong and Aj. Suvit agreed that integrating academic work with real-world challenges in the field helps enhance the academic capabilities of KMUTT researchers and fosters the development of well-rounded individuals who are compassionate, perform meaningful work, and contribute positively to society and the nation.
