Dr.krissanapong kirtikara, Advisor to King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), followed up on the progress of the Social Engagement Laboratory area in Nan Province.

From May 30 to June 3, 2024, Dr.krissanapong kirtikara, the university’s advisor, along with Mr. Surain Thapanangkul, Director of the Royal Project Foundation and King'S Recommended Project Supporting Center, KMUTT, visited the Social Engagement Laboratory area in Nan Province. Mr. Montchai Neesang, the area manager of Nan Province, and relevant researchers accompanied them. The work follow-up topics were as follows:

a) Thai speaking, reading, and writing projects with Asst. Prof. Dr. Sittikorn Sumalee, a lecturer from the Faculty of Education at Kasetsart University, visited schools in the area, including Ban Nam Tuang School, Ban Pang Kae School, Mani Pruek School, and Ban Huay Lu Police Border Patrol School in Nan Province. All students were from Hmong, Lua, and Mlabri ethnic groups and faced similar issues; outside school hours, students used their local dialects for communication, leading to discontinuity in learning Thai. The development focus is on appropriate educational media for ethnic groups, serving as supplementary materials for children with specific problems.

b) Development of the "Growth Center" as a student development and continuous follow-up center for 12 years, from elementary to secondary education. It will be piloted at Ban Bo Luang School (elementary) and Bo Kluea School (secondary) in Bo Kluea District, Nan Province. Under the concept of "Thai Math Excellence," students will gain strong foundations in language and mathematics, leading to further learning. The initiative will link to volunteer educational work involving local people, KMUTT professors, and students interested in creating a model learning starting point to expand coverage in remote areas.

c) Dr. Krisanapong's feedback on working in the Social Engagement area emphasized understanding the related history and context by studying from books and existing local officials. Once the whole picture is understood, the community can be comprehended, leading to effective work.

"Solving poverty or improving the quality of life of villagers is crucial. Good education helps people think and make better decisions. Knowledgeable people can help improve their families' living conditions and plan better lives. Thus, solving inequality and poverty will be successful"

said Dr.krissanapong kirtikara
regarding the important principles of the work.

The working group should continue their efforts, creating networks that work academically and within civil society to collaboratively create valuable work that positively and concretely impacts the community sustainably.
